Choosing a Modern Appliance

Choosing a Modern Appliance
It’s a difficult decision choosing a fridge freezer. We all seem to want a large American style one in our kitchen but what should you actually consider before you buy? We thought it would be handy to compile a list of tips and points about what to think about.

How much space do you have in your kitchen?

Space is the ultimate constraint you need to think about before you make any decision.  American style fridge freezers are big, and if you only have a small kitchen you should consider the implications of owning one. They have many advantages and come in two main styles, one which is side by side which is a popular model as you have your fridge on one side and your freezer on the other which of course alleviate the problem of bending down to get food. The other is top and bottom which is perfect for larger items in the freezer which can span the full width

However this decision needs to be well-thought-out. Is this style of fridge freezer right for your house or family? Will you store that much food or will this produce a centre piece for your kitchen? Although they may look amazing you may simply not have enough room in your kitchen to move freely, whereas a modern upright fridge freezer may only be 600 mm wide. They still contain similar technology but are more suited for smaller kitchen designs.

Which do you use the most the fridge or freezer?

Every family is different and you should look at your food intake week on week or month on month dependant on your shopping cycle. Do you require more capacity in the fridge with fresh food or do you store more food and require a larger freezer space. If you generally cook from scratch with ingredients you purchased the same day then a big fridge will probably be the better option.

Alternatively if you like to carry out a huge monthly shop and then store the food for the rest of the month a larger freezer capacity will work in your favour.

Where are you going to put it?

You can’t simply just put your fridge freezer anywhere, it needs to have good ventilation or it will not work efficiently costing your more electricity to run and over work the components. If your device has an ice and water machine, can it be plumbed in and connected to the water supply. Are you able to still manoeuvre around the work surfaces? If the kitchen is overcrowded it can cause hazards which were not there before.

Overall a flashy American style fridge freezer is not always the best option; they are also far more expensive than a standard up right version. The key is your fridge should blend into the design, not be an eyesore.
